She decided to seriously pursue acting and enrolled at the Repertory Theatre Training Program at Adelphi University on a four year Performing Arts Scholarship. Graduating with a BFA in Theatre, Karen continued her training in New York City at Herbert Berghoff Studios with teachers Uta Hagen and William Hickey.
